Leighton Hall was built for John Naylor, a wealthy banker and art collector between 1850-1852 and has similar design features to Abney Hall in Cheshire. John Gregory Crace was responsible for the interior decorating commissions to both houses utilising the designs of Augustus Welby Northmore Pugin.

The bill from Crace details that In the dining room there were 18 chairs with oak frames and Russian leather upholstered seats, finished with gimp and brass nails and a monogram stamped on the backs.  The original invoice was for £99 - £5 10s each. These were similar to the chairs designed by Pugin for the Palaces of Westminster around 1850.
