John Walsh Walsh was a successful businessman and in 1850 he purchased an established glass factory in Birmingham, specialising in top quality products. When he died in 1864, his daughter purchased the company with her husband and continued the family run business. Lewis John Murray was appointed manager and had been closely associated with glass manufacturing in Stourbridge.
