F472 Gothic Revival Dressing Mirror
Gothic Revival dressing mirror, the oak quatrefoil framed mirror with inlaid stylised flower roundels, walnut columns and oak finials. Later base. Can be used as a freestanding mirror or mounted on a wall.
Design attributed to John Pollard Seddon.
Circa 1865.
This piece of furniture has all the great qualities of the Gothic revival period and the name of John Pollard Seddon who we have attributed this piece to. Its beautifully chosen cuts of oak and walnut are exemplary, the mercury silvered mirror, its deep colour and patination are outstanding.
J.P Seddon designed 'King Rene's Honeymoon' cabinet, one of his most important pieces of furniture arguably of the Victorian period. Now held at the V&A. (see link below)
