In 1894 Sidney and Ernest Barnsley, together with Ernest Gimson, left London to set up a practice in Pinbury, Gloucestershire. They moved in 1902 to Sapperton, where they established workshops. Sidney stayed true to Arts & Crafts principles, continuing to design and handcraft furniture at his Sapperton home. Gimson and the Barnsleys shaped twentieth‑century furniture by prioritizing honest materials, solid construction, and fine workmanship. Their focus on meticulous handcrafting helped sustain a deep respect for traditional craft skills.
