The design for this chair was first introduced to Morris in the early 1860’s possibly by Phillip Webb taken from an earlier chair found in a country cottage in Sussex . It has become synonymous with Morris interiors and an Arts and Crafts icon. It first appears in the Morris & Company catalogue in 1865 and continued to be used for over 40 years.
