Gilbert Bayes was a leading sculptor whose work was full of naturalism and symbolism. He produced a wide range of applied work from caskets and cups, furniture panels and door fittings, mirrors and stained glass. He worked with wood, silver, bronze, enamels, plaster, stone, ceramics and other materials. Bayes was a noted war memorial sculptor and medallist and was renowned for his series of large scale low relief panels designed for architectural settings.
Bayes exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1892
